Help for med-dance:

The med-dance mailing list is archived at the anonymous ftp site: ftp.std.com
/ftp/nonprofits/dance/med-dance
(The directory path is case-sensitive)
This archive is part of Dancers' Archive which starts at /ftp/nonprofits/dance
The digests are updated as posts come in from the mailing list, but they are
grouped into weekly files. The naming convention is: dYYMMwWW.digest where
YY is the two digit year (e.g. 95), MM is the two digit month (e.g. 07) and
WW is the two digit week within the year (00-52)

All files under /ftp/nonprofits/dance should be accessible via anonymous ftp.
However, there are some situations where files may not be available this way:

1. Occassionally the server itself will be unavailable and you won't be able to
connect to the site - in this case, just try again after an hour or so.

2. The site may be too busy for you to connect - try again after an hour or so.

3. You can connect fine, but you cannot read some files. This happens
periodically. To fix it, email owner-med-dance@world.std.com and mention what
files were not accessible, and the maintainer (e.g., me) will fix the
permissions of the files.

You can also access the files via email - for instance, to get the file
d9507w28.digest, you would email dancers-archive@world.std.com with the
following SUBJECT line:
get med-dance/d9507w28.digest
(The word 'get' is required.
Note: Directory & file names are case sensitive!)
For more information on the get command, email dancers-archive@world.std.com
with the following SUBJECT line:
get help/get-cmd

A find command is available to search the med-dance directory. For more
information on this command, email dancers-archive@world.std.com with the
following SUBJECT line:
get help/find-cmd

Under the med-dance directory are four other directories: med-lyrics, mgi,
and mgraphics.

med-lyrics is where med-dance lyrics are stored. To get your lyrics stored
there, you can either email them to me and I'll store them manually, or, if
there's large enough interest, people will be able to ftp them to a 'lyrics-in'
directory. Lyrics sent to me or ftp'ed would be transferred over to the
med-lyrics directory roughly every 24 hours, but it depends on my
workload.
mgraphics is for any kind of graphics related to med-dance, and contains
mostly graphics related to the belly-dance-history.txt file.
mgi is the inbound version of mgraphics for those who would like to store
med-dance related pictures on the Archive. Please email me with a description
of the pictures after you ftp them so I can stay aware of what's in that
directory. They'll be transferred over to mgraphics in 24hrs or so, depending
on workload.

The med-dance mailing list is not gatewayed to any newsgroup.

There is currently bits and pieces of a FAQ for this list in the med-dance
directory (in the files with names that are all caps).
The welcome message for the med-dance mailing list is stored in:
/ftp/nonprofits/dance/med-dance/list.Welcome

All problems or questions regarding the med-dance list or the med-dance archive
area should be sent to me, and not to the list.

The mailing list med-dance is handled through majordomo@world.std.com, so
any commands regarding that list should be sent to the majordomo address.
To find out what the commands are, put 'help' (w/o the quotes) in the body
of the mail to the majordomo address.

A daily digested version of the med-dance list is now available.
The original, regular version of the list is still handled through majordomo,
but the digest is handled directly through me. To subscribe to it, please email
dancers-archive@world.std.com with the following line in the body:
subscribe med-dance-digest

You will NOT be automatically unsubscribed from the regular list, so if you
want that to happen, you have to do it yourself, separately. Email
majordomo@world.std.com with the body containing the line:
unsubscribe med-dance
to unsubscribe from the regular list.

Once you are unsubscribed from the med-dance list, you will not be able
to post through med-dance@world.std.com. med-dance digest subscribers must
post through med-dance-d@world.std.com. Those posts will then get sent onto the
regular list once they are verified as from digest subscribers.

med-dance digest subscribers will receive one post per day, probably
averaging ~30k.

Any questions, please email me directly.

Under the flamenco directory are four other directories: letras, letras-in,
compas-analysis, and fgraphics.

letras is where flamenco letras are stored. To get your letras stored there,
you can either email them to me and I'll store them manually, or you can ftp
them to the letras-in directory (letras-in is the directory's name and is my
abbreviation for 'letras inbound'). Letras ftp'ed to letras-in will get
transferred over to letras roughly every 24 hours, but it depends on my
workload.
fgraphics is for any kind of graphics related to flamenco, but is pretty
empty right now.
compas-analysis is for the two documents "Compas Analysis" and "A Flamenco
Journey" and their related graphics.

The flamenco mailing list is not gatewayed to any newsgroup.

There is currently somewhat of a FAQ for this list.
The welcome message for the flamenco mailing list is stored in:

The welcome message for the flamenco digest list is stored in:

area should be sent to me, and not to the list.

------------- Subscription Information -----------------

If you find the volume of messages on the regular list too high, or
the quality too low, you may be interested in the digested version of the list,
with which you'll get only 1 message a day. That message contains all the posts
that were sent to the regular list for that day.

To subscribe to the digested flamenco list (flamenco-d), e-mail
owner-flamenco@world.std.com with the following command in the BODY of the
message:

subscribe flamenco-digest

The list's digest option concatenates all the messages over a period
of time into one message and sends out that one message.
The flamenco list sends its digest out daily due to the high volume of
messages.

The undigested list is more "conversational" in nature while the digested list
is like a daily e-mail newsletter for the flamenco community.

To subscribe to the digest, you should e-mail the command shown
below in the BODY of a message to <owner-flamenco@world.std.com>.

To subscribe to:
---------------
flamenco (the undigested list), e-mail majordomo@world.std.com
with the following line in the BODY of the message:
subscribe flamenco

flamenco-d (the digested) list, e-mail owner-flamenco@world.std.com
with the following line in the BODY of the message:
subscribe flamenco-digest

To unsubscribe from:
-------------------
flamenco (the undigested list), e-mail majordomo@world.std.com
with the following line in the BODY of the message:
unsubscribe flamenco

flamenco-d (the digested list), e-mail owner-flamenco@world.std.com
with the following line in the BODY of the message:
unsubscribe flamenco-digest

Still can't figure out what's what? Here is a more detailed comparison
table to help you choose what might be best for you. (If you really
can't decide, you can always subscribe to both the regular list & the digest.)
